The Newberry Springs Fire Department provides fire protection and all-hazard emergency services to Newberry Springs, California, an unincorporated rural community located in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County.
The Department serves approximately 114 square miles of rural desert terrain from Fire Station 392. Our response area includes homes, agricultural properties, businesses, major transportation corridors, railroad infrastructure, open desert, and remote locations throughout the community.

Newberry Springs is located approximately 20 miles east of Barstow along historic Route 66/National Trails Highwayand the Interstate 40 corridor.

Unlike a densely developed city, Newberry Springs consists largely of widely separated homes, ranches, farms, businesses, and properties. Long travel distances, dirt and unimproved roads, extreme temperatures, and the surrounding desert environment all influence how emergency services are provided.

Major Transportation Corridors
Newberry Springs is positioned along several major transportation routes that contribute significantly to the Department's emergency-response responsibilities.
Interstate 40 passes directly through the Newberry Springs area and serves as a major east-west transportation corridor connecting Southern California with Arizona and the southwestern United States.
Historic Route 66, locally known as National Trails Highway, travels through the heart of the community and remains an important roadway for residents, businesses, tourists, and travelers.
Interstate 15 is located north of the central community and provides another major transportation connection between Southern California, the High Desert, and Las Vegas.
Railroad infrastructure also crosses the Newberry Springs area. Freight rail operations present additional emergency-response considerations involving railroad crossings, hazardous materials, remote access, and transportation-related incidents.
