According to the American Heart Association, immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) following sudden cardiac arrest can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. Learning CPR gives community members and professional responders the skills and confidence to take action during a medical emergency.

Program Overview

Our certified CPR instructors are also firefighters, bringing real world emergency response experience into the classroom. Classes are designed to be practical, engaging, and hands-on, with an emphasis on building confidence and developing the skills needed to respond effectively during an emergency.

We currently offer two American Heart Association CPR courses:

1. AHA Heartsaver CPR, First Aid & AED
   • Designed for community members, employees, caregivers, coaches, and others who want or need CPR and first aid training.
   • Participants learn CPR for adults, children, and infants; proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); choking response; basic first aid; how to recognize a medical emergency; scene safety; activation of 911; and how to provide care until emergency personnel arrive.

1. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR
   • Designed primarily for healthcare professionals, EMTs, firefighters, and other individuals who may be required to provide CPR as part of their job.
   • BLS training focuses on high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants; use of an AED; effective ventilations; recognition of life-threatening emergencies; choking response; and coordinated team-based resuscitation.

Both courses include hands-on skills practice and are taught in accordance with the requirements of the applicable American Heart Association course.

Class Costs

• Initial Certification: $120 per participant
• Recertification: $80 per participant

Class fees apply to both AHA Heartsaver CPR, First Aid & AED and AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR, unless otherwise noted.

Pre-registration is required. Drop-in attendance is not accepted.

Payment is due at the time of registration unless otherwise arranged.

Completion Cards

Participants who successfully complete an eligible American Heart Association (AHA) course will receive an official AHA course completion eCard.

The eCard confirms successful completion of the applicable course and may be used as proof of certification when required by an employer, school, licensing agency, or other organization.

Important: If you are taking CPR, First Aid, or BLS training to meet an employment, licensing, or school requirement, please confirm in advance that the organization requiring the certification accepts American Heart Association (AHA)credentials.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Newberry Springs Fire Department reserves the right to reschedule or cancel a class when necessary due to instructor availability, emergency response needs, low enrollment, or other operational circumstances.

If NSFD cancels a class, registered participants will be notified and any applicable class fees will be refunded in full.

Participant cancellations made at least 24 hours before the scheduled class start time are eligible for a full refund.

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the class, or failure to attend without notice, may not be eligible for a refund.

Please allow approximately 3–6 weeks for refunds to be processed, when applicable.
